As I see it, there are a couple of recent series/teams that can actually provide a somewhat interesting discussion:

Pistons - Heat LAST year

[/ QUOTE ]

Heat were prolly still better last year too. Their 2 best players were injured before/during the series and they still somehow almost won. If the Pistons were actually a 'great' team they probably would have won in 4 or 5 games last year.

but great teams have bad periods too, for a ton of different reasons.

Again with this dominance crap.

Are your quotations around "great" meant to imply that Detroit was somehow not a great team last year? Like when I say that Wade didn't get "injured" until after game 5 anyway?

They lost games in December as a half-dozen new guys learned to play with Shaq. By February, Miami was clicking. They built the team to peak when needed.

[/ QUOTE ]

Because Shaq was hurt 6 months before Hamilton and Wallace got hurt Miami is better? Miami was healthy and played better at a more opportune time. Good for them. They still won 12 fewer games than the Heat.

I'm sure if the Bulls had beaten the Heat(a similar gap) there'd be Bulls fans coming up with all the reasons that the Bulls were the better team and that regular season records don't reflect the truth.

Yeah, I saw him doing the riverdance behind Marv and Steve. Well... it wasn't really the riverdance, but it was close enough to make me laugh.

So if you think Detroit is the best team in the NBA that means you also mean the following are the best teams in their respective leagues...

Indianapolis Colts
St. Louis Cardinals
Detroit Red Wings

As for tonight...

Marv Albert says in regards to the officials, "Three of the best working the game tonight."

Hmm, anyone wanna disagree?

Right now this is a classic Bavetta game, making the officials bigger than the players...

The Mavs offensive gameplan has been awful so far. Take the ball to the basket!

Everyone knows in Hockey, the best team often loses to a hot goaltender. Ottawa was likely the best team in the league this year, but Hasek goes out, and they're screwed.

The Colts were likely the best team in the NFL. The Steelers presented major matchup problems, but (while it doesn't matter), they were not definitively the best team in the NFL last year, that much is clear.

And baseball is a game with so much variance, and aces matter so much more in the postseason.

That said, I think the Spurs or the Mavs are the best team in the league this year.
