Re: Card-shuffler
[ QUOTE ]
yeah, I'm not big on them. if one of my rich friends was willing, I'd order one of the crappy casino-grade shufflers. The good (read: certified random) casino shufflers are like $4k. uhm, ouch. [/ QUOTE ] FWIW when they got in table auto shufflers at one of my smaller local rooms I asked the floorman about them and he said they cost like 10k a piece. Though they might be a top of the line version or something. He also told me it is illegal to own the ones they have in casinos here without a license here in Washington St. |

Re: Card-shuffler
We should really have a sticky about this; it comes up every week.
I have a shuffler that came with me at birth, and it's faster than even the 10k models. |

Re: Card-shuffler
I played in a bar poker league venue where the players donated prizes. I donated a card shuffler and the winner of the first tournament after I put it on the prize shelf went straight for the shuffler. He had some kind of congenital defect which made shuffling by hand problematic. He really appreciated it.

Re: Card-shuffler
The $15 shufflers are complete junk. You have to run the cards through it several times to get a decent shuffle and that ends up taking 5 times as long as just doing it by hand. There is one option worth looking at if you can't get a casino shuffler - it's this one:
http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-news/art...-market-in-2008 It's not on the market yet but apparently it will do a dealer shuffle (3 riffles, strips and a cut) in 30 seconds and unlike the $15 model it's 100% automatic. And it can be flush-mounted on your table. Price? $480 apparently. |

Re: Card-shuffler
As I posted previously, I play in a bar league that is player dealt and we take turns being the dealer. I shuffle just like the guy in the video (with the cards on the table) except for the little move he makes just before a final shuffle.

The price is still a little steep, but it's much more reasonable than a Deckmate. If they can hit that price point with a quality result, I'd consider it. That being said, until it's a reality, use two decks and have someone shuffle the second while the dealer is handling the current round. |

Re: Card-shuffler
You could always use 2 decks, when one is shuffled by one of the folders in the hands.
This way you will always have a deck ready for the next hand. I think that this will also leave enough time to get drunk and high, since the shuffler would be a guy who isn't smoking or drinking at that time. Works for my home game. |
