Run Differential

ARI: -20

NEGATIVE [censored] 20 AND THEY'RE 67-51

[/ QUOTE ]

17-5 in last 23 games. Outscored 49-5 in those 5 losses

quite impressive

its amusing they have a 5.5game lead in the NLwest yet have the worst W3-L3 record

is there anywhere to look up biggest +W3 and biggest -W3 in baseball history?

What happened to the Yanks? Where did the pitching go?

[/ QUOTE ]

that anyone thinks the yankees have had any pitching for the last 6 years just makes me laugh

[/ QUOTE ]

Yankees currently have the best pitching in baseball.

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you mean at this moment? Because their ERA+ of 99 for the year is below average...

[/ QUOTE ]

Hughes Wang Clemens Pettite Mussina.

Edwar Vizcaino Chamberlain Rivera.

Beat that.

I quoted a newspaper story in a previous thread that said the DBacks had the 2nd largest pythagorean differential in history, the biggest occured in 1905.

Player ERA+

starters
Wang 109
Clemens 108
Pettite 108
Mussina 96
Hughes 93

relievers
Edwar 28
Vizcaino 109
Chamberlain Infinity
Rivera 155

Beat that.

[/ QUOTE ]

starters
Webb 166
Davis 120
Petit 109
Owings 100ish (after today)
Hernandez 95
Gonzalez 89
Can't count Randy Johnson despite a 121 in ten games

relievers
Pena 226
Slaton 214
Valverde 173
Lyon 161
Cruz 137

So the DBacks have three starts as good as or substantially better than any Yankee starter, and four relievers better than Rivera, this year.

I guess when you have the best offense in baseball it kind of makes your pitching look a little better than it is.

Not overlooking the bad start by both Mussina and Viz is irresponsible when comparing current pitching staffs. Same with Edwar.

Yankees ran really bad at the beginning of the year so I shall point that out to you while totally ignoring the fact that the Yankees have the worst defense in baseball.

So variance and a bad defense is entirely responsible for the team's below average ERA+? The DBacks are at 119 as a staff, about 20% better than the Yankees.

The Padres are only at 115, but probably actually have the best staff. They have two unbelievable (Cy Young worthy) starters and three awesome relievers mixed in with a bunch of decent pitchers.

You are aware that the Yankees have played basically their entire season without their 3 best pitchers, right?

And once again : Defense.

No, Petitte & Rivera have been there the entire season. Wang has missed some time, true, but even when their "best pitchers" have pitched, with the exception of Rivera they (Wang, Pettite, Clemens, Hughes) have been very ordinary this year.

And I'm aware that defense has an impact on ERA. But is it so large that their true ERA+ should be 20% better? There is much better argument as to why their staff isn't so far away from the DBacks and Padres, and I'm surprised you haven't yet made it.
