Default engagement gift for brother? ideas? help?

my brother got engaged last weekend and is having an engagement/house warming party (him and his fiance bought a house together a couple of months ago) on friday. i've been told engagement gifts aren't really traditional and i should just show up, but i dunno, i think i should get him something. he is 25, his fiance is 23 and neither of them drink at all. they both play a lot of soccer and love animals, especially their dog (a shepherd/rottweiler cross). any ideas?

Housewarming gift is completely appropriate.

Vases and fruit bowls are safe choices if you know their tastes well enough to pick something out.

A copy of Prenups for Dummies?

A case of condoms?

Earplugs?

Sorry, these are the the things that I wish my buddies would have given me when I first got engaged.
