Koch was never as good as Lidge was. Didn't have the X-factor Lidge did.

[/ QUOTE ]

He had a longer peak though. And it was at an earlier age than Lidge.

Holy S, I had no idea. WTF WHY DOESNT ESPN SHED LIGHT ON THIS KIND OF STUFF INSTEAD OF SHOVING BARRY DOWN OUR THROAT!?!?!

I thought he just broke...thanks for shedding light on this. I hope he gets better and gets back to baseball before it's too late. What a crappy way to have to end your career.

The funniest is when he was invited to Jays camp a few years ago and was one of the final cuts. Koch brought a bunch of people to the TOR-TB game in Tampa and booed the crap out of the Jays.

the weird thing about lidge was he was dominant in the playoffs the year before he gave up the homer to pujols in the nlcs
If im him I can live with Pujols hitting that homer
However giving up a walk off to posednick in the world series would make me want to kill myself

a's fans hated koch the year he pitched "well" for us and won the relief man of the year award. closers that habitually start the 9th by walking the first two guys they face just aren't very good

2 Wikipedia gems for Billy Koch:

- Billy is famous for attending Boy's Brigade at the First Presbyterian Church of Babylon where he would play dodgeball and knock out the girls with his missile-like throws

- He paid Justin Miller $1,500 ($1,000 to Justin, $500 to his wife) to get "I Love Billy Koch" tattooed on his buttocks.

Koch threw really hard, but his fastball was straight and his breaking stuff erratic. He had a nice run, and I'm sorry to see that he and his family are having a tough time now.

I think Lidge at his peak was a much, much better pitcher than Koch.
