Pocket 9\'s against overcards
Very small sample of ~30 hands, but Villain has been loose aggressive preflop (raising Axo from EP PF) and passive post-flop.
PokerStars 0.05/0.10 Hold'em (9 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx Preflop: Hero is MP1 with 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 2 folds, Hero raises, 1 fold, MP3 (Villain)/ calls, 4 folds. PF: I don't think there was anything tricky here. Flop: (5.40 SB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, Villain calls. F: I can't decide if I played this correctly, but I didn't want to give him a free card if he didn't have the A. Turn: (3.70 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, Villain calls. T: In review maybe I should check/fold this turn? There are two overcards and I can't figure out Villain as he is just too passive to this point. River: (5.70 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks, Villain bets, Hero calls. R: At this point I figured he wouldn't fold to a bet with a better hand so I checked and figured I'd make a crying call and hope to heck that he had one of the bottom pairs on the board. Final Pot: 7.70 BB |

Re: Pocket 9\'s against overcards
I think you should c/f the river.
Edit: And if you really think 6x is in his range, then you should be b/f'ing. |

Re: Pocket 9\'s against overcards
I would have played this hand the same way HU against a loose passive player, and hoped for the best.
Overall, I think that you will win some and lose some of these types of hands. However, I think that it is usually better to continue to be aggressive HU on the flop and turn, than say check/calling or check/folding the turn. By continuing to be agressive you will hopefully let this opponent and the rest of the table know that you will compete for pots when you have something, and thus gain some fold equity in future hands when they miss. Also check/calling or check/folding the turn HU seems weak and may cost you pots that you otherwise might have won. |

Re: Pocket 9\'s against overcards
Preflop is fine.
Let's breakdown the flop: You have a PP bigger than MP with a small 1-card BDFD on a 2-flush board. I think your hand falls into the "Marginal" category of SSHE. As such, marginal hands should be bet or raised if you think you can eliminate your opponent(s). Absent a read on how villain reacts to bets on the flop, i would probably check. But, you were also the pre-flop raiser so where I would normally check this I think the CB is good. Turn bet is also good. Short of him raising, there is no need to slow down (yet!) On the river when the third overcards falls and we do not improve, I think you have to check/fold. |

Re: Pocket 9\'s against overcards
I think the turn is a check.
river is a definite check. I probably fold it. |

Re: Pocket 9\'s against overcards
99 raise preflop = standard play? i NEVER raise 9s preflop unless i'm in late position and there are no limpers so far...

Re: Pocket 9\'s against overcards
Yes, it's standard. If you're feeling frisky you can even 3-bet with it in late position, but it is a raisable hand from any position.
