Default Friend is late for everything

A friend of mine is late for everything, he'll call me up and say "see you in 10 minutes" two hours will pass before he eventually shows up. He makes deadlines that he can not possibly meet, he does this with absoultely everyone, everyday...

I've asked him to be a bit more realistic or not to give me any specific time but he just does the same thing over and over.

Anyone have friends like this? Is he a lost cause or just mental?

I have one friend like that. You just need to make all your plans with those type of people such that you meet them there. That way if they are late you are still out having fun and they can show up whenever.

You need to deploy a wide array of tactics with people like this. The essential gist is that they are left behind when they are late.

For example, if you are going out for an evening, don't accept a situation where you wait for him to show up. Instead, say you are leaving at x o'clock and then leave if he is there or not.

And by all means, avoid needing to depend on him to be somewhere. Actually, avoid having to depend on him for anything. Schedule your life out and stick to it. He can join in when he gets there, leave it up to him.

You'd have to be more specific but sometimes people do this as a form of control or a form of making themselves more important.

Give some examples of why you need to wait for him and we can go from there.

I find that, as difficult as it is to change my own behavior, it's impossible to change other people's.

Well he showed up yesterday at my house 1.5 hrs late.. I asked him what took him so long when he said he would be here in 15 mins. He replies "Ah I was talking to my mum for a bit then I felt a bit tired so I went to bed for an hour"

lol I give up..

I was thinking it is more controlling than anything else, anyways from now I'm not arranging my plans around him.. if he's late for whatever he can catch up or wait until I'm finished.
