[ QUOTE ]
But if he shows AT, you have 3 less outs and if he shows a set, you need runner runner. You are not 30% to win against a range of A5, AT, 55, and TT I'd guess.

[/ QUOTE ]

You're correct, though I bet if you make the range [AT, A5, 55, TT, AK, AQ], and even if you weigh the AQ by 0.5 or something, the call becomes profitable again. "Horrible" was probably a bad choice of words for folding. I think it's a call, albeit a close one, against an unknown $60 opponent. I do think some of the unthinking responses in this thread are "horrible" though.

You got AK, you hit an A or a K on the flop, you go broke with it. It's that simple.

[/ QUOTE ]

Most of the time this is true, but this is a clear cut case where it isn't, I'm sorry. NOBODY plays a hand worse than 2 pair this way on such a drawless board.

[/ QUOTE ]

uhh if by nobody you mean 10 people at my tables in the last week, then yes, you are correct.

Playing devil's advocate, it's far more likely for villain to fold UTG w/ A5 than the others, results notwithstanding.

Quick hand from a $109 last week to illustrate why I lean toward calling here:

Hero limps for $30 with 99.
MP raises to $100.
SB calls, BB calls, hero calls.
Flop: J 9 6 with 2 hearts.
Hero checks. MP bets 150. SB calls. BB calls. Hero raises to 500. MP folds. SB folds. BB raises to 1100 (all-in). Hero calls 600.
BB shows 44.

WTF?

You can't just fold to these randoms b/c they "can only have a hand that beats you" because of their betting pattern.

Oh yeah, I have quite a few of those too. Especially in the first orbit or 2. If there's a maniac-donk he hasn't flamed out yet, and a lot of others subscribe to the "double-up-early-or-go-home" strategy.

After that they tend to calm down a bit.

lets replay it.

Preflop raise. A hits. He bets out. Who plays Ax this way?!? Aq AJ AT everybody. JJ is a bit of a stretch, given flop bet, but if no one played that way I wouldn't win so much money.
