i coldcall, miss, then bluff
utg is very loose and very bad. something like 45/22 and I have enough of a hand to play here. threebetting seems worse than coldcalling because I don't mind if the blinds come along here and I've got position on my man regardless.
Party Poker Limit Holdem Ring game Limit: $2/$4 6 players Converter Pre-flop: (6 players) Guruman is UTG+1 with J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#cc0000">UTG raises</font>, Guruman calls <font color="#aaaaaa">(3.5:2)</font>, 3 folds, BB calls. Flop: A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (6.5SB, 3 players) BB checks, UTG checks, <font color="#cc0000">Guruman says "whaaa??" and bets</font>, the interesting thing about coldcalling is that my range becomes "any 2 cards" to most people - even though I play tight. and in this case I'm positive that villain just got thoroughly confused with a non-a hand. I think the coldcall can be a powerful weapon if the spots are chosen carefully - just because it causes so much confusion to a pfr when he whiffs the flop.

I think in this case it is very important to know your opponent. Is UTG+1 a kind of player who plays his pocket pair like a donk? Or is he aggressive post-flop? Normally pf raiser bets to any flop. Checking is strange from aggressive player like that.
BTW, I never cold call against one that aggressive player. Either raise of fold IMO. You can try to steal the pot with betting the flop. I'd slow down after that, if villains are not folding.

i hate getting coldcalled by tags OOP. I auto put them on set when the flop drops!

I always 3-bet this preflop, just cuz calling always feels weird, especially when the rest of the table is left to act. I'd rather isolate this player with position instead of allowing others with position on me to play. I think a good time to coldcall with this hand is when you are in late position and there has been an EP raise followed by a call or two.

Interesting. I cold-called and open-limped hands like KJs/KJo/QJo/QJs/ATs/ATo for my 1st 40k hands at 3/6. And i now know that this is a huge fundamental error, but i still managed to run well over 4bb/100 for those 40k hands. Either variance is more of a beast than ever imagined, or cold-calling, open-limping hands like this is not as much of a sin as the general public here assumes.
As an interesting side-note, I've been on a 250bb downswing since i eliminated cc'ing and open-limping from my game. Variance. As for this particular hand, I would 3bet pf and bet when checked to.
