Default Misreading board in live game cost me $$

Weird thing happened to me last night.

9/18 Commerce, Live

I'm in mid position with QJ[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

I open Raise PF, about 5 callers.

Flop is

9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Damn! I flopped the nuts!

BB checks to me, I check (planning on popping the turn) A guy after me bets, button raises, all call.

Turn is 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

I check, button raises, BB calls, I re-raise, all call (WTF?)

River:

2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

BB bets, I raise, all fold to BB who 3 bets, I 4 bet, he 5 bets all in.

I say "I think we're chopping" and I flip over my QJ with the nut straight.

He flips over A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

And everyone says "Flush".

I say "huh??"

I Look at the river. No, it wasn't the 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] it was the 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I can't for the life of me figure out why I saw a heart instead of a diamond - it was an expensive mistake.

Anyone else ever experience this?

I've done this sort of thing more times then I can count. It sucks. But we all make dumb mistakes at times (even at the poker table).

Best of Luck

Heck yeah. Sometimes even missreading my own cards or thinking I have the hand I had last hand still. Used to happen about once per session for me. For now, I have developed a habbit of double checking my cards (and the board) often.

Lol, misreading the board is about the least bad thing I've done when too tired from long sessions. I tried raising when I wasn't even in the hand, thinking that I held hole cards from a few hands ago. Time to call it a day. I should point out that I make a point of memorizing my hole cards and never looking at them again, to avoid obvious tells, so I guess this was bound to happen.

Has happened to me on many many occasions.

Online, ALWAYS use a 4 colour deck, it really helps with the flushes!

It happens so rarely to me now, but almost always, i am vvvvv tired, and should have gone to bed a couple of hours ago, or on tilt

Not too nit pick, but this wasn't an expensive mistake. At most it cost you 4. some bets (5 max if he had exactly enough to 5 bet exactly), but more likely it cost you 4 or 2, depending on how tight your or the opponent is.

I've sort of done it playing live Omaha 8/ob. I sort of recall the hand: I had TTKx in the BB, flop came down KTx with 2 to a flush. Looked at my cards and figured I flopped the boat. I ended up pumping it and some guy called me all the way down with a flush and won. This was after I had been playing 08 for a while! Happens. I've done it in HE but not all the way to river.

Also, just calling and going for the overcall was prolly going to get more money in the pot. By raising, you got rid of the others.

On the other hand, if you had the nuts, and a couple had called, you would obviously raise
