Default Incredibly lame question regarding laptops on planes

I am flying out of town tomorrow, which I do like once per year. Not only do I not like flying, I don't usually have a reason to do it. This time I do.

Anyway, I like to watch DVDs on my laptop, but it requires the docking station, which is fairly bulky. The laptop itself isn't huge at all, it's a small HP laptop. The docking station would add about five inches to its depth.

The flight to Denver won't be long, but the flight to Illinois will be. On the way back, the flight from O'Hare to Phoenix is 3+ hours. I'd like to watch a movie or listen to music, but can any of you savvy travelers speak to whether it's worth my trouble to bring the docking station onto the plane to watch movies, i.e. have you done this? Guessing the depth from the back of my docking station to the front of my laptop at about 15 inches.

Probably wouldn't make this thread if there weren't a bunch of young internet punks ([img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]) who recently came and went from Vegas and had similar experiences. Don't fly out until yesterday afternoon so any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

If it needs a docking station it probably doesn't have an open slot for a DVD drive.

Anyway, I fly from Hartford to Minneapolis several times per year for school (2 1/2 hour flight) and watching stuff on my laptop is a bit of a hassle. My laptop's depth is only about 10 1/2 inches and it's impossible for the screen to be straight if it's sitting on the tray and the person in front of you has their seat leaned back. If you have in-ear headphones I'd say it's worth it.

ccrazy,

Thanks, that's what I was looking for (no disrespect, guids). I may steal the docking station from the chick in the office next to mine, it's less cumbersome, but I was looking for similar experiences. I'm looking at two three hour flights in the next week which is perfect for movies of my choosing...which I haven't chosen yet.

No way I'd get the ROI on this unless it's like $10.

I guess the question mostly was "will I have this thing sticking into my gut the whole time?" Tomorrow's longer flight is a window seat so I'm not too worried about the hassle, just was looking for experiences.

Haha, well given your experience with the overseas toilet thread I guess your opinion carries serious weight, I just didn't even know about something like this.

Just bring a book about economics or something so you can sleep.
