I am really resisting the urge to get this and trying to wait until Poker Stars gets it in their FPP store

I just read this on the gamespot news post...

"The price drop announcement was accompanied by more unexpected news: The 80GB PS3, previously only available in South Korea, is also headed stateside. The larger-capacity system will go on sale in August for $599, and will have all the functionality of the 60GB model except backwards compatibility hardware. Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton confirmed to GameSpot that the 80GB PS3 will instead use software emulation to play PlayStation 2 and original PlayStation games."

I don't know if this even matters with todays technology, but software emulation is often pretty crappy.

Anyhow, I think I'm picking up the 60GB on Amazon. PS3 + Free Remote + Free 6 Blue Ray DVDs + Free shipping.

Now, a worthwhile game just needs to be released. Gah, I've been wanting the PS3 for awhile, but there are no games I want. I figured it'd be better to wait in case something like this happened. Plus, newer models tend to have more of the bugs ironed out.

The software emulation looks like it's going to make the 80 gig version effectively not the newer model, for the purposes of waiting till the kinks get worked out.

Resistance is very much worth buying for those whining about the PS3 not having a single great game. This fall has a ton of top notch PS3 Exclusives coming as well (SOCOM, Ratchet, Lair, Heavenly Sword, MGS4 etc.)

Just ordered this today. I actually have an xbox 360 elite coming from costco that I'm going to return. I know the games aren't there yet but the fact that I can have blue ray, blue tooth, easily upgradeable hard drive(120gig for $80), rechargeable controllers(no add on cost), and the ability to install linux it was a no-brainer for me.

Ended up dropping $539.99 cause I added a second controller. Also have a copy of resistance:fall of man($40) coming in the mail that i got off of ebay.

I do see the advantages of the xbox 360 with there live setup, but i do think sony will do something to compete with that shortly.

Also, I have a ton of ps2 games that hopefully will look great when they're upscaled on this unit.

I ordered mine. Did next day delivery on Amazon. Amazon listed it as in stock when I bought it. Now the controller arrived today. The console did not. They said it will arrive 3 days later on Monday. Amazon said they will refund the shipping. I already have haggled their CS enough by email. Now becomes the waiting game.

I think I am going to sign up for Gamefly for the next 2 months until the big titles get released.

Ok, have had the unit now for a week. Games so far:

RFOM
2k7 baseball
Vegas
Motostorm
NCAA 08

The games are looking and playing great, although Vegas did look a touch better on the xbox 360. Have Tversity installed and streaming media to the ps3. Blue-ray movies look great as well as ps2 games. I think i'm in the minority that prefer the playstation controller over the xbox. Can't wait to see what COD4 looks like.
