Default Magic Trick Expose

Anyone care to reveal how great magic tricks are accomplished. For instance, how does David Blaine levitate?

blaine levitates by merely angling his feet and standing on the tip of the foot that is furthest from the onlooker. it's called the balducci method and anyone can do it. he uses this method for the reaction shots from the people. when they actually show him doing it they use a completely different shot of him done at a different time. the televised method requires a prop and looks better for the camera, but obviously can't be done for reaction shots, because the peeps would just be like, "um, he stepped on a box, yo." it's actually one of the least impressive things a magician can do, but seems quite the opposite.

Ever see Houdini's "Metamorphosis" trick? It's pretty much a staple in every magic show.

(Here is a speeded up, low-budget example--if you hate the music, as I do, you can watch with the sound on "mute".)

When I was a child, I vowed to find out how that trick was done. I wasn't much for magic shows, but I always found that particular trick fascinating.

For twenty years, every time I saw that trick, it drove me nuts that I didn't know how it was done.

Then Fox network's Masked Magician did his "Secrets of Magic" special, explaining it simply.

I was thrilled. I finally was "in" on this one!

Five minutes later, the thrill was gone. The wonder was gone. And I almost wished that I still didn't know how the trick was done.
