Also their was no need to color up chips, its a computer it can account for odd chips.

I remember when I first played a SNG and noticed the race off. I mentioned to Ptek that since it was computerized, you did not need a race off. They said they designed it in for 2 reasons:
1) It emulates live SNG play. (so does taking 20 seconds to shuffle cards but I'm not interested in total emulation)

2) It allows the software to reduce the types of chips in play--allowing for players to follow the action/betting easier. (because we can see how difficult it is to follow on-line SNGs with digital chipstacks--note sarcasm)

I had forgotten about that feature until you reminded me about it. I got over it back in Oct 2006. I think its a valid point but I also don't think it changes the game significantly.

I assume you can not get eliminated during a raceoff, as is the case in live play. The difference I see, is a very shortstack under 100 at the green chip raceoff automatically is up to 100, again at 500. In tournament play the smaller the stack the more valuable the chips.

Hawaiian Gardens probably runs the most SNGs in town and they don't race off. Starting stack is $500 with five T5 chips, seven T25 chips and three T100 chips (this includes the extra T100 chip everyone buys for $3 which takes care of the dealer).

When it gets heads up the limits are big so the small chips are the last to go in.
