Default At what point does the play get better?

A little background: A couple of months ago I cashed out my bankroll to help pay for my wedding/honeymoon. When I did have money (when I played limit) I played mostly 5/10 or 10/20 online (Party).

Recently, I reloaded and started up again at 1/2. And have now worked my way back to 10/20. In general the level of play got no better as I moved up.

There were always 1 or 2 players at the table that played as if they were drunk. Another 1 or 2 that were waiting for top 10 hands only. There were just as many 'crying calls' made at all levels. Players that would defend their blinds with any 2. Players calling gutshots without the right odds.

The only real difference I saw between 1/2 and 10/20 was the level of aggression. The pot building is better at 10/20. Raises with OESD's and nut flush draws, etc. But balancing that out was the number of players that take the strategy of "Usually is better to raise or fold than to call" to mean "Usually is better to raise".

At what level do you notice a change in the quality?
