Investing in Real Estate or Stocks?
Do you think you could get a higher return investing in real estate or picking stocks yourself assumming you're going to perform at equal to the S&P 500? In real estate you're going to have to borrow money in order to buy so assume a 100,000 dollar investment.

Re: Investing in Real Estate or Stocks?
With the leverage real estate offers, you can probably make more money with that. You have to be careful though, because in a lot of cities now is not the time to be buying real estate. From what I understand the key to making money in real estate is purchasing properties at less than market value.

I had a friend in Portland buy an old house near a hot area (NW 23rd) for around $70k that normally would have rented for around $500 per month. He bought it because he noticed it was zoned commercial. He converted it into commercial space doing all the work himself and started renting it out for $2k per month on a long term lease. |
