Default Getting Rusty?

I hope this should be in the psychology forum?

I was wondering how other poker players feel about "Getting rusty". Sometimes I feel like my game is rusty if I take as little as three days off. Any psychological wizards want to take a stab at some scientific and logical reasoning for this?

I guess this topic can range to being rusty at anything, but we can stick to poker since its 2p2. Just seemed interesting enough for me to bring up.

Anyone care to share what they might do to get back into the game after a break? I know that after extended time away from the game I like to read a little bit before I start again...

I believe this is common with poker. I think it's because poker (to learn to play well) is such an "unnatural" process to learn that as soon as we have a break, our mind slips back into it's old ways pretty quickly.

Just like learning anything else, it will get engrained eventually. Just make sure you're censoring what's being engrained.

2+2 Online magazine has some fascinating articles indirectly relating to this at the moment- all to do
with motives and trade-offs.
