This thread hasn't gotten much serious play, but I think the OP's question is a good one for all to consider. And the way to answer his question is to first take the perspective of the villain, and ask what should his action be with various hands like non-nut straight, nut straight and air (which a set now is), and how much should he bet with those hands or should he check. Answering the questions from villain's perspective first will lead to the correct answer for hero's action.
