You have to do what makes you happiest.

Re: Am I an Idiot?
Doing something that makes you unhappy is almost never worth the money.
Of course, it affects future job moves... you might consider something new instead? |

Re: Am I an Idiot?
I didn't read your post, but since I know you and feel that qualifies me to answer: yes, you're an idiot.

Re: Am I an Idiot?
seriously, if the less pay isn't a hardship and you'd be happier stepping down, then do it. Life is short, enjoy yourself. I think sometimes we get too caught up in the American drive for success, you know?

Re: Am I an Idiot?
usually if you have to ask the queston:
Am I an idiot... the default answer is YES. However... if you still make over $100K a year (top 5% of american earners)... and you're happy... good move |

Re: Am I an Idiot?
Well if you're happier then I think you made the right decision. But when you start out by saying you make X I'd rather you then told us a % of how much less you'll be making.
Because if your initial salary was 500k then losing 30-50k isn't that big of a deal. If your salary was 80k then it is. But you know what your financial position is and what implications it might have on your quality of life. Honestly if I was single right now I'd quit my job and go work at Starbucks or something. I'd be even poorer than I am now but I wouldn't be stressing out I don't think. |

Re: Am I an Idiot?
If you just went from 100k to 60k, I think it's a big mistake.
If you went from 150k to 110k, still probably a mistake, but not as bad. From 200k to 160k, not a mistake at all. |

Re: Am I an Idiot?
Not to be overly blunt, but this is a pretty stupid question. You are the only person who knows how much money your time and happiness are worth to you. Just be glad that you're in a position where this is actually a choice.

Re: Am I an Idiot?
GG,
Previously you indicated you were a call center manager. Now you're indicating you make six figures "on average". Does not compute, call center managers in Phoenix make ~$50-80K and the market in Vegas is almost identical. I know Big Steve and Dids also have jobs similar to this and could share some input. How many layers of CC management are there? Isn't the whole point of managing a CC to keep hiring to compensate for the high turnover and to keep the employees from giving each other STDs? Either you're way overpaid relative to market or you're in a director or a C-level position of a very, very large call center. If you have "golden handcuffs" use your leverage obviously, if you don't then get the hell out of that soul-sucking enterprise. I mean, look how grouchy it makes Dids. |
