Default Books to Learn HTML/Web Design

I'm trying to learn web design/HTML. I figure I'll just go to the bookstore and get a book to learn this, but I don't know what books are better than others. Any suggestions?

I can't recommend a specific book. I have a few, but they're not especially good. Maybe just look through what's there and pick one that suits you.

I can recommend this website: http://www.w3schools.com/html/

I learned on Dreamweaver. The "Macromedia" series on the various Dreamweaver components are very good.

A general, short introduction to web design would be good to start with, just browse the shelves. The ones I used are dated.

A short introduction to HTML code itself is necessary too. You usually don't manipulate the code directly these days, but you still need to understand it.

I'm no expert but I've always liked the Visual Quickstart Guides published by Peachpit press. Later you may need something more advanced but as somewhere to start they're pretty cool IMO.

If you need an ISBN try 0-321-43084-0.

I repeat, I'm no expert.

Build your own web site the right way using HTML & CSS - by Ian Lloyd

I think this book is nice, its strutured around building a website part by part so you can see the changes on the website getting better and better. It contains pretty much CSS though but if you want to learn good web design you want to use CSS anyway. You can read more about it on sitepoint.com
