Building a new system. Thoughts?
Going to be building a new system for my girlfriend's office. Would like to keep things in about the price range that I'm in, but it isn't a firm price range. Would love suggestions from anyone who knows more about components than I do. System will be used for basic office work, nothing extremly fancy. They do want a dual monitor setup. I'm by no means an expert and may have even screwed some of this stuff up. Haven't built a system in a few years. All components being purchased at newegg.

Re: Building a new system. Thoughts?
If this is for an office why the heck are you building it? Dell offers dual monitor setups. Should be alot cheaper/quicker than having someone build it for them.

[/ QUOTE ] Whats wrong with building her a computer for her office? I don't understand your concern. Building a dual monitor setup with comperable components at dell comes out to $600 more and wouldn't ship until august. |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm going to have to disagree with you Bremen. This system would be much more expensive from Dell, and with lesser quality parts. @ OP - You could save some money in a few spots but the system looks good. 1) cheaper processor. E6400 is pretty baller for a work machine. 2) RAM - probably don't need 2gb. 1gb would be fine. 3) How many mice do you need? You have two pretty good ones in this setup. Edit, misread video card. |

Obviously there is nothing wrong with building a system yourself, however for business use generally the business in question wants something NOW that won't require tinkering.

Re: Building a new system. Thoughts?
If you must get a 64xx chip, get the e6420. Same price, slightly newer architecture.
I'd skimp out on a cheaper keyboard/mouse, and ditch the CPU fan too. The stock heatsink/fan is actually quite good. If you want extra cooling, head over to http://www.jab-tech.com and pickup 1 or 2 Yate Loon 120mm or 80mm (whichever fit in your case) fans for a few bucks. Also if you must get that video card, why not grab this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130062 Same thing, and $20 cheaper after the MIR. |
