Especially interested in comments on the turn and river. I check behind the turn to keep the pot small and allow myself to see showdown. Then I go and call a 3-bet on the river? Is my hand enough improved to change tack like this?

The river really depends on what type of player it is against. If you have any hands on them (even like 50) then you can probably figure out if its best to call or fold.

Assuming its an unknown, I would be betting the turn almost always for like $7.

CDL: what would you be looking at in their stats to decide if it's a call or fold? I often see 50 hands with someone and only see them show down a half dozen hands, so I'm guessing it's statistics based . . . but I'm not sure which . . .
