this happened to a friend. he was in a convenience store and the counter girl says to him

her - "what are you"
him - "i'm sorry, what do you mean?"
her - "are you like chinese or something?"
him - "no, i'm philipino"
her - "oh, i thought so, cause your eyes aren't so chinky" while she said this, she actually made grabbed teh corner of her eyes with her fingers and made chinky eyes.

racism? ignorance? she was not trying to be funny, but she was also not trying to be offensive. she just did it. i view this as a very similar act as the OP's incident, even though it was more blatant, mostly because it was spoken, and mimed.

would we also see the same if they were 2 black guys and the walking girl threw up a bunch of gang signs or something? or the counter girl made big lips or someshit with hers?

btw, i'm asian, i thought both the OP and what happened to my friend were hilarious. mostly cause ignorant stuff like that is hilarious.

i don't really know what my point is.

I don't think they are the same thing. This girl just seems ignorant and completely oblivious to the fact that someone might find her words and actions offensive. The girl in the OP knew full well that she was doing something offensive.

Thoughts on the above version of the conversation?

This is funny. I wonder if anyone else sees why (no, it has nothing to do with Asians and math).

Also, at the very second I finished reading the original post, Marcy D'Arcy and Jefferson D'Arcy offended Pat Morita by feeding him sushi on Married... With Children.

Weird. I just saw Pat Morita play a small role as a butler on an episode of Columbo shortly before I read the thread.

Pat Morita is everywhere!!

Well, my comment didn't draw flies, but in another thread I referenced a B-movie called Night Patrol, in which Pat Morita plays a rape victim...with a female's voice dubbed over his. Very strange.
