It was kind of a snap decision, but here was my thinking:

I have top pair bad kicker vs. a fairly small preflop 3-betting range, so I'm not THAT excited about my hand, but I just picked up a ton of outs -> check.

Please tear apart my reasoning if it sucks.

edit: By this same reasoning, I shouldn't be 3-betting the flop, but it is worth the investment to get it heads up, correct?

I usually call the flop here and raise the turn.

As played, just bet the turn, if you get c/r, call, and fold the river UI.

If you are checking the turn becuase you think you are losing, just fold the flop then.

you have to bet that turn. hopefully, he doesnt raise you and you can take a free showdown if the clubs dont get there or bet for value when they do.

And this is a short handed low limit holdem game, he could have any pair for that flop check raise, did he have JT?

you just built a big pot and now you're giving him a free card to draw out on you

if you think his raising range on the flop is so tight that you're always drawing to 3-5 outs, then you should fold there. I don't think this is a safe assumption though

I like every street. and i agree with the turn check.

He could hit an ace or a set on the river but it's more likely our hand improves to a winner instead.

I prolly suck at poker. But if the turn check is good how is the flop 3-bet good as well?

I mean if you have enough eq to raise for value or raise to get HU on the flop, wouldnt you have enough eq to bet the turn for value? Your hand didnt exactly get worse.
