I've never seen O Brother Where Art Thou. Don't even know what it's about.

The Coen brothers do the Odyssey. Film clip here of Ulysses and crew enticed by the Sirens.

Mindless crap that always satisfies

This would be my choice. Nothing specific but mainly sophmoric comedies or some romantic comedies. Nothing that requires too much thought or attention.

See, for me, it's the opposite. When we're talking about comfort movies, I need something that uses up all my attention, diverting it away from, well, life.

The American President and various West Wing episodes. Just a classic kind of 'feel-good' story with fun dialogue. No real drama, just the kind where you KNOW everything will be fine at the end and are happy to see the hero win the day.

I guess I go back to my childhood when I want something comforting.
Big : still the best thing Tom Hanks has done IMHO
Back to the future : a perfectly paced movie
Clash of the Titans
Jason and the Argonauts

Strangely, the first thing I thought about when I read this thread was Love Actually.

I'm a very cheesy male, and love good love stories. The thing about this movie is that there aren't any 'good' love stories. I mean, they are mostly shallow, not too well put together maybe... but I just absolutely love watching this movie each year. It's such a feel good movie with tons of good endings, and while most of the time I'm more for the darker movies or at least ones that really explore human emotion, this one really stirs up smiles for me, and not many movies do that.

Porbably a pretty lame answer, but hell, it's honest.
