SNG Novice question...
This seems to always to come every once and while I have no idea how to play it.
Middle position, 5 or 6 ppl left, folds to you w/ 6-8BB's and pick up AXo. Should I fold and wait for another spot or is it more +EV to just shove here? |

Re: SNG Novice question...
Depends on your position and opponents calling ranges and stack sizes. If its folded to you in SB its most likely a push.

Re: SNG Novice question...
I don't really crunch numbers because I'm a fool and aren't focused enough, but I think most players will say it's situationally dependent. More often, the later the position w/ AXo, the better, however, it depends on the players at your table, where the button is, who is in the blinds, etc.
I tend to fold those easily dominated hands, and wait it out. I'd rather shove with 6s7s in LP than AXo UTG, ya know? -eroc |

Re: SNG Novice question...
No simple answer. Depends on X, reads, stack sizes, table dynamics, image, blah blah blah...
Often there are a lot of AYo hands in your opponents calling ranges, where Y>X making these type of pushes less profitable than you may intuitively expect. Although having the A in your hand does reduce the chance of your opponent also holding one, increasing fold equity. |

Re: SNG Novice question...
Okay, five people are BB, SB, BTN, CO, UTG. So I'm CO in that scheme. I push most if not all aces with 5BB, not so much with 8BB.
Six people, it would depend which spot I'm in and what x is. I think this is the kind of question you could readily answer with an ICM program. |

Re: SNG Novice question...
I realize now that the OP wasn't exactly in the greatest detail so ill try again. And lets say its A(4-9)o.
Same example as above but now.... 1. CL is in the BB, fold or shove? 2. CL is immediately to my left, SS in the BB? 3. SS's are both in the blinds w/ med. stack on the button? |

Re: SNG Novice question...
You're asking about too many variables. You need to get an ICM program and just play around with it. Doing that will help you learn better than we could answering questions like this anyway.
Both SNGwiz has a trial version and I think sngpt does too. |
