Okay guys, this is how this works: When a program sends info to the internet it uses a certain "port" (this is a software thing, not an actual hardware port). There are hundreds of these available, and really any program can use any port, but a lot of programs use standard ones. For instance, email programs usually send via port 25 or whatever, nameservers use port 43, etc.

Norton keeps a list of these and up until now probably the only program that ever used a certain port was Simcity, but now fulltilt has decided to send data through that port, and Norton just assumes it is Simcity. That's all that this is.

(tech guys, please don't nitpick at the obvious small errors I have made here, I'm just trying to explain it in terms that maybe make sense)

guys this is scary.

I was in the middle of a 150bb pot, when all of the sudden a message comes up saying people are not happy with the lack of hospitals in my city.

After looking at the average lifespan chart, I saw that they had a point. Avg life was in the high 60s.

Umm, no. If Norton just assumed it was a certain program because of the port it used can you imagine how easy it would be for someone to get around Norton's alerts. The whole point of these alerts is to warn the user when an unsuspecting piece of software tries to access the internet. If all Norton did was "assume" it was a certain program because of the port it used they would never catch any of the programs.. People would say "Sim City 3000, I don't care if that goes to the internet."
