Re: I Worry About Some Of You

[ QUOTE ] I might actually try doing something like this myself in MSHE and post a new thread where I call people out to have Asperger's or Downs or whatever if they don't agree with some of my really sound reasoning, because clearly they have a problem and should be aware of it. This is so retardedly naive and an extremely ridiculous statement, coming from someone who doesn't have a clue. [/ QUOTE ] sorry, but I got a big LOL from that hypocrisy [/ QUOTE ] Retard doesn't always mean the slur. |

Re: I Worry About Some Of You
I actually don't think David's statement about Absolute was too far off, but it's not really "politically correct" and therefore he is recieving a lot of flack for it. I don't understand why David is surprised by the responses either, this is BBV, a forum where obnoxious and rude replies are the norm, especially in a circumstance like this.
David, what is this anti-cheating software you speak of and how does it work? All sites are vulnerable to cheating if somebody in the right position decides to cheat. I don't think we have really ever had a case of an outside hacker who managed to compromise the system of a major poker site. Most cheating on poker sites involves people being scammed, or chip-dumping / colluding. It's hard to stop scammers, although I really like that Stars is trying hard to verify legit transfers by calling you and asking for personal info. Chip-dumping and colluding is almost always caught by a viligante poker player who then turns the info over to the site. I don't really know of many ways a poker site can implement things to prevent cheating, short of becoming overly suspicious and pissing innocent people off in the process who may decide to take their business elsewhere. |

Sometimes it also refers to a slowing of tempo in classical music. Here, though, retard meant retard. |

Re: I Worry About Some Of You
retard can be used as a completely objective statement
i.e. "the trees growth was retarded by the cold weather" I am just guessing, but I think the word comes from the french verb retarder which means "to be late" or something similar. Calling someone a retard, meaning slow or dumb, is an insult, but saying something is retarded can be taken literally as meaning. It's just that the word is used so much that it has too much negativity attached to it, just like the word gay being used to describe a tv show you don't like etc. |

Re: I Worry About Some Of You
Cheating in online poker can be mostly prevented or detected when there is a willingness to do so. Sklansky seems to focus on this "anti-colluding" software. Is there a specific software that he is referring to, or is he just applying a general concept to focus on. IMO, it is rather obvious that anti-colluding software is not significantly relevant to this situation. I think the much more important issue here is the willingness to prevent cheating part. Collusion between players is not what occured here. Owners/former owners/consultants took advantage of a system they created. And an obvious cover-up is STILL going on. So telling the foxes you need them to install anti-colluding software before you will trust your hen to them is pretty silly.
And you said something that rang rather true to me in one of your many threads. People will do whats in their own best interest given the opportunity. The reprecussions of this scandal will deteremine the future opportunities for those with the means to cheat us. The line that, "There is nothing that we can really do to hold AP accountable, so I say, if you are making money, continue to do so" does not deter this type of thing from happening again. It actually promotes it to happen again. SO i think the posters upset with your much anticipated response to this scandal aren't mentally disabled, but angered that your words do more to promote this kind of cheating again then to deter it. It almost sounds like to me that your tone here is, if you are a profitable online player, you must simply learn to accept the probabilty of cheating as another rake. I think we can do better than that, can't we? But I am only 33, so maybe I am WAY too optimistic!! |

Re: I Worry About Some Of You
I understand that he used it in the derogotory way, I was just pointing out that most people, including myself, misuse it because the word has become so common. Let's say he flips the adjectives and says "This is so ridiculously naive and an extremely retarded statement, coming from someone who doesn't have a clue." It sounds exactly the same. When ridiculous and retarded come to mean the same thing then we have a problem.
