Default Re: How to play 2/4 Limit in a Casino?

lol..funny responses...

In foxwoods i tried playing 2/4 Limit after 5-6 hours of nl 1-2 which i was up around 350 and i never have seen such retarded play in my life (maybe when i saw the Red Sox)...people calling 3 bet rasies before flop with queen 4...

After 25 minutes i went on tilt and in a hour i blew 100 bucks...

The weird part of it is that you want the table you just described. Big pairs - the heart and soul of NL can be just another hand to chase down at 2/4.

Rule 1): PF discipline. I believe that most of the money I've made at 2/4 comes from the hands I didn't play.

Rule 2): If you are in the hand Mygtar was right... value bet, value bet, value bet. Push those edges knowing that many will get chased down. You only need to win a couple of these to have a winning session.

Rule 3): It is relatively easy to move around this kind of table as poeple leave. Keep the true LAGtard's on your right.

Rule 4): Bring an iPod to drown out the repetitive trash talk. Optional: In LV free booze serves the same purpose.

Rule 5): 2/4 is a good place to practice some skills cheaply. Hand reading, check raising, practicing fake tells, etc. can all be practiced cheaply.

Other than PF discipline, forget the rules and have fun. And when variance goes against you have the courage to say "good hand" and DON"T WHINE like your original post. That's good practice too. LOL.

Don't even bother it's unbeatable. Move up to 15/30 stat.

That's dumb advice if someone doesnt have the roll for 15/30.

I mean how can you play 2/4 Limit when you raise and its 6-7 players to the flop? Even Aces are [censored] when it come to that odds.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would personally thank every single player at the table for cold-calling my UTG raise when I have AA. Wait, what was the question?

EDIT: Last time I played 2/4 was donking around with my under-rolled micro-limits friend and another guy who is a casual player. Tyler was driving so he used his cocktail-ordering power to allow Kiel (stereotypical drunken Irishman) and me to 1.5-fist increasingly-strong drinks. I made this really cool castle tower out of my $100 buy-in plus about $200 profit from rivering two pair like 4 times after everyone refused to to not give me odds to chase it. Then it fell over. Actually, it kind of imploded, Stardust-style. As usual, the night ended with me tipping redbirds to any cocktail weaitress who would bring me a glass full of olives. I [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2/4.

sounds just like the play at my local casino's 10-20 LHE game. only six or seven to the flop would be two less than we usually get. you are right AA is [censored]. last time i played it got beat at least 75% of the time. needed a straight or better to win most hands. chase your ass off.

this isn't very difficult. start taking note of winning hands when you play, and count the # of times that 1 pair wins. i can tell you it isn't very often. then relate this to your strategy as you re-raise w/AA (1 pair) on the river vs. 4 opponents.

i don't really play AA for much more than set value unless i manage to get a < 4-way flop.

All good advice so far, except the obligatory recommendation to move up to 15/30 (I'm assuming that was a joke).

Its true that big pocket pairs go down in value RELATIVE TO OTHER STARTING HANDS as the table loosens up. These hands, such as AA, still have a lot of value, however you do need to avoid falling in love with them when the board is scary. In other words, if there are 3+ cards to a flush or straight and you are facing a bet and a raise with 4 people still in the hand, then 1 pair is probably no good and you should fold.

This does not mean that AA has no value as a starting hand in these games. If it is capped 7 ways pre-flop and you hold AA, then you are getting value as long as you win 1 out of every 7 hands. You will have even more value if you know how to fold post flop and your opponents do not.

Learn proper pre-flop discipline, know when to fold a hand that looked really pretty before the flop, but is probably beat after the flop, learn when to value bet, never bluff, and don't expect to win just because you are the favorite. When you are a 4:1 favorite, you will lose once every 5 hands and could easily lose 2-3 hands in a row.

Also - If bad beats cause you to tilt, then take a walk every time someone sucks out on the river. Wear comfortable shoes because you will be doing alot of walking.
