I was pulling into the lot at work and was behind this woman driving very slowly. She then suddenly stopped and then her reverse lights came on and she spent the next 1.5 minutes backing into the space. This put me on life tilt. Why do people back into parking spaces??? I need to understand so I can function for the rest of the day.

Thanks,
-G

Wow if it took her 1.5 minutes she prolly shouldnt be driving that is just horrible, would take me like 20 secs.

I never used to back into spaces until I bought a new car a couple of years ago.
I drove forward into my regular spot at work when I first got it and at the end of the day backed out and nearly pulled the whole front bumper off, didn't even think about the new car being a lot lower than my old one and the bumper got hooked over the curb. Now I back in every where I go just in case.

1. it's easier to back into a spot than it is to drive forward.

[/ QUOTE ]say whaa?

1.it is easier to pull into a spot normally. you just pull in.
2.your trunk is accessible
3.accidents don't happen when you back out if you are LOOKING.
4.this is nothing like parallel parking in which you back in the spot because your FRONT wheels are steering.

i had respect for 2p2r's until this thread. i've been in parking lots where i've parked, gotten my coke, and left all in the time some tewl is trying to back into a spot.

I never do it. I do drive thru though when the opportunity arises!

[/ QUOTE ]

This is very important. I also hate it when people park in a space that has a pull through possibility but don't pull through. Thus wasting the pull through.

[/ QUOTE ]

My wife refuses to pull through and she thinks I'm weird because it drives me insane...

[/ QUOTE ]

Please slap her for me.

[/ QUOTE ]

I gave her one slap for you, and one slap for me - then I told her why.

She explained she won't pull through at the grocery store because if someone parks behind her she can't easily access the trunk when she's packing the groceries to take home.

Then she kicked me in the nutz.

i dont know why but whenever i see someone staring straight ahead when reversing they look kinda dumb.

[/ QUOTE ]
If I'm backing into a parking space with cars on both sides, I rarely look behind me once I've started the turn. All you need is your inside sideview mirror.

I was worried that you were dead when it took you this long to post in this thread.

1. Matter of opinion, I know a lot of people that have to back up and pull back into the spot to 'straighten out' because they pull in too close to either car.
2. Why would the direction your car is facing matter with the trunk? If you need to pull something out of it that is big you can leave enough room easily when backing in.
3. What happens where there are 2 massive vehicles next to you? You just look through them? Pull our really slowly? Sometimes you just can't see.
4. Aren't you always steering with your front wheels?

look there are valid reasons to back in, i hardly ever do out of laziness.

but saying the actual pulling into the gap 'is easier' is not one of them. yeah it might be easy for you once you've become adept at it, but something like 80% of drivers would disagree.

and yes, i can back in pretty easily thanks.

I agree with this. Almost everyone pulls in front first... the only exceptions I have seen are trucks (which I now understand given the comments) or complete nits.
