Is this an angle-shot?
Hustler 1/2 NL. New table...Young guy bets the whole way and old guy calls the whole way. At river young guy tells old guy "Take it", and flips over his hand. Old guy assumes pot is his and mucks. Young guy then jumps up and demands the pot claiming the old guy mucked (which he did, because the young guy said "Take it"). Argument ensues over the fact that the young guy said "Take it". He was clearly conceding the pot. Old guy grabbed his cards (dealer hadn't scrambled the muck) and shows 2 pair. Floor sided with young guy.
The feel at the table was that the old guy "should've" shown his hand, but when the other player told him to "Take it" he was giving the old guy the pot. Thoughts? |

Re: Is this an angle-shot?
Bet, call on river.
Kid says 'Take it' and tables his hand. Then Pops mucks. Right? No angle (Kid tabled his hand before Pops mucked). Pops should know better. If his hand was identifiable, it should have been live. |

Re: Is this an angle-shot?
It's a shot. Pot SHOULD go to old man under the "muck is not magical" and "best interest of the game." and "young guy is a douche".

Re: Is this an angle-shot?
Poker players generally know that you have to protect your hand. I've heard people say things like "take it" when they are sure that they lost but their cards are still live. If your opponent has live cards and you don't, technically you can't win. I don't really think that the young guy was trying to cheat, cause common sense tells you to hold on to your cards until the pot is shipped to you. I think the floor man should have taken into consideration the fact that there was some mis-communication, and if the cards were clearly separated from the muck and indeed the winning hand, he should have given it to the old guy. Just my thoughts.

Re: Is this an angle-shot?
Old guy is a fool. And I am an older guy.
I frequently turn over my cards and say "I lose". Meaning I am 99.99% certain I will lose the hand. Since I am tabling my hand I have not conceded. If I say "I lose" or "Take it" and muck my cards, then I have no right to see the other hand and if he mucks its his pot. If I hold on to my cards and say "I lose" or "take it" then I am a douche bag who deserves to be banned. In this case the kid is a huge jerk for taking this so far. Since the older guy's cards were clearly identifiable he should have conceded the pot. Or at the very least struck a deal. |

Re: Is this an angle-shot?
"Take it" != "I fold"
I've said something along these lines before -- i.e. "You got me" or something, assuming that I HAD to be beaten the way the hand played out -- only to find out that I was called down with bottom pair or something that I could beat. Moral: Hang on to your cards until the pot is shoved your way. |
