Default Accomodation during the LAPC

Going to the LA Poker Classic in February and since I'm not from the US, I don't really know much about the city.
Does anyone have any recommendations on places to live during this one month period? Looking för a house or apartment in LA, preferably in a place with some cool restaurants, bars, etc... will be renting a car, so it doesn't have to be very close to Commerce. Actually, I absolutely DON'T want to live close to commerce. The area around the casino sucks real bad.
Anyway, been looking at Venice Beach and Santa Monica. What do you guys think?

is there a problem staying at the commerce? i realize the area around the casino isn't great, but staying at the casino is perfectly safe. plus, you're going to save a [censored] in gas, car rental, and stress. if you stay in santa monica you'll have to commute daily during rush hour, or leave very early to avoid it.

I don't really remember when the tournaments usually start, but it shouldn't be a problem leaving earlier to avoid rush hour and play some cashgame meanwhile or whatever.

The area around Commerce absolutely sucks. Lived at The Wyndham last year. Was decent, but too far to walk and absolutely nothing to do nearby. Commerce is fully booked since long. Also, I'm not gonna be playing every single event. I wanna be able to do other stuff in between. Hang out at the beach, barbecue, grind online, live 4 ppl together, etc... definitely gonna be a house/condo.

Appreciate all the help I can get.

Try belmont shores, near long beach. its much more convenient to the casino than Redondo or Santa Monica. Its a nice little area with lots of good bars, restaurants, etc and additionally has some nice vaca rentals in the area.

Take look at Craig's list under vacation rentals or sublets.
