I'd raise the button to 3x the blinds with a hell of a lot of hands.

Raising only 3x bb is unnecessary weak sauce.

[/ QUOTE ]

Pete, why do you feel this is weak? Aren't we just trying to build a pot with a good/speculative hand in position without trying to over commit before seeing the flop?

Completely agree with Pete. Raising 3x is just going to inflate a monster pot where you're going to want the nuts since you can assume its going to be played with a bunch of opponents. The 3x bb raise here doesn't leave for much play post flop becasue of so many in the hand, cards are going to dictate the action. If you repot it and thin the field theres more room for you to play against one or two opponents since you have position.

I think the deeper you and opponents are the more correct it is to pot every button you play.

Unless you have AAXX, KKXX why do you really want to pot the button everytime? I play the game for flops and step up my action from there. Of course, it is my opinion that being too aggressive pre-flop in ths game can kill you in the long run. I like people that raise alot, I just look for a playable hand and get ready for the trap.

if you only play against total post-flop spewmonkeys, then limping to trap is probably a fairly profitable, though not optimal, strategy. but against anyone with half a brain, failing to play for higher stakes when you have the best cards and position will just get you broke.

I am referring to lower stakes which I play....In higher stakes my strategy would be much different.

imagine you are playing blackjack and the count is well in your favor. do you bet 3x your normal amount so that you don't "over-commit" before seeing your cards? or do you bet the maximum?

pete,

so you always raise pot on the button in a 6-way limped pot because of your "equity edge"?

Good analogy if this were blackjack, but I think what they were saying is that with the nature of hands in Omaha, the count can never be "Well in our favor", so maybe that's why the 3x makes sense instead of the full pot?
