Default Large 2.5in SATA hard drive for a Playstation3

320 gig Western Digital 2.5in SATA drive

So you can swap out the hard drive in the Playstation3. This 320gig drive would make a good replacement. You could store all your music and downloaded video all onto the PS3, along with video game data.

It is worth considering if you wanted to make the system the central movie center.

whoah, pretty neat. Is this something that won't be possible with 360's?

Pretty sure the 360 HD is either a proprietary format or just plain incompatible with publicly available drives.

I am not an expert, but why is this better for a console than a regular notebook or desktop?

That is just personal choice. If you prefer in your laptop, it looks like a great drive. The Fujitsu 200gig drive would also work.

With mpeg h.264 HD video, you could make it an HD movie system. Take tivo recordings, store them on the PS3. Load your entire library of mp3s. Also the PS3 might adopt Xbox live strategy on giving shows/movies downloads directly.
