In case anyone had any questions about Fletcher, check out his new commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EBzVJ_sP...s%2Findex%2Easp

Also, he replied to my letter. As one would imagine, his reply put even Kyl to shame.

Would it be possible to print his reply?

I guess I am going to have to vote for Ernie Fletcher after hearing a segment with him on WHAS radio on Thursday. He cited all the dangers of having casinos in Kentucky and let us know that casinos cause abortions. Even the normal soft-ball lobbing Terry Meiners (WHAS afternoon host) seemed to have problems letting that assertion stand. Incredible stuff.

Casinos cause abortions!?!?!?!? Wow! LOL.

Here's Fletcher's letter:

Dear Mr. Engineer

Thank you for contacting me regarding the possibility of expanded gambling in Kentucky.

I do not support expanded gambling or the establishment of casinos in the Commonwealth. We must not take bets on Kentucky’s future. I want a modern tax system that grows our economy, creates jobs and helps build careers. My administration has already begun a process through tax modernization and the JOBS for Kentucky initiative that will produce the positive results we need to move Kentucky forward. Continuing that objective is where I will focus my efforts.

Building casinos in communities across the Commonwealth is not the answer. To bring expanded gambling to the Commonwealth would be detrimental to the families of our state. The problems associated with the gambling industry are many and any benefits that might be derived are nebulous, at best. To promote gambling as a quick solution any time revenue is needed is not in the best interest off (sp) Kentucky. Instead, we should concentrate on growing the economy, attracting the kinds of jobs that will be an asset to our state and spending the dollars we have in the most efficient manner possible.

That issue is vitally important to many Kentuckians and I appreciate your views on this subject. I look forward to working with other elected officials and the citizens of this state to formulate policies that will truly fulfill the vision of success for Kentucky.

Sincerely,

Ernie Fletcher

On that topic, let's all check and make sure we're registered to vote. Then, let's get our buddies registered. And, let's keep writing to KY media. We want to take credit for the victory, after all.

i voted in the 2004 presidential election. it was the last time i voted. none of my contact information has changed. do i have to register again? is there a way to check my voter status?

I did a quick google search and couldn't figure out the answer. but i thought it would be best to post here anyway, since many first or second time voters here would have the same questions.

Engineer,

I was sorting thru some boxes of misc stuff earlier today (we will most likely be moving sometime the next few months and are trying to get a head start packing up/throwing away some stuff that we won't be using over the next couple of months). I came across a bunch of old Op-Ed pieces I wrote for the Kentucky Kernel when I was UK. The first one I found was a hit piece on none other than Steve Beshear. Man. . .how times change. It was pretty funny to look at some 11 years or so later!

Les (I will try to get that letter we have talked about written tomorrow, Engineer!)

Yes, how times change! I still believe what I always believed; limited government, power to the individual, etc. It's the Republican Party that changed. Hopefully a loss or two, starting with Fletcher, will help folks like us to regain control.

Good luck with the move.

I think 2008 being a Congressional Armageddon is what it will take. Rove/Dobson/Bush assumed(mostly correctly) that we have a 50+1 style election system. One half is red, the other blue. Scorch the earth to galvanize your turnout and make some local/regional plays to steal some electors and youre in.
Gay marriage, stem cells, farm subsidies, and pander to the Cubans, and youre in.
Im seeing right now the Republicans losing massively in 08. The computer generated gerrymandering that kept them alive early this decade has been demographically eroded for effectiveness. Youre seeing that in retirements in the House of members with declining vote %s(a lot of our targets). The Dems could have a majority in the House and exclude the Blue Dog Caucus.
Unfortunately, a lot of the power brokers in the Republican Party are safe. Multiple term Senators rarely lose. No one in California ever loses a Congressional race. Can they lose 9 seats in the Senate? I hope so, maybe they will implode as a Party or reform. Otherwise, its done. The Party could shrink to as little as 30-40% of the electorate.
The old assumption that you can hold half the country no matter how [censored] insane, dictatorial, and imcompetent you act in office is about to be broken.

I agree completely.

The believe Dems will pick-up at least 5 seats in the Senate and 15 +/- 3 in the House as well.

The GOP has a slight edge in keeping the White House though unless they really implode or the Dems nominate someone other than Hillary or Obama or both.

Im not sure what the Republican's chances of a White House hold are. Even if a strong 3rd party guy comes along, Hillary won't go under 40% without a major scandal(WHO is Hillary [censored]?), but she wont break 48% in a 2way, unless its Mittdog. Rudy is still the best math, but Im not sure how polling data now compute to electors in November. If he pulls
mid 40s in NY and Cali, does that really matter? There is no question a Giuliani presidency would be an unmitigated disaster for us. As bad as Mitt or McCain. Not Huckabee bad, but bad. 15 seats may be on the low side, because we haven't seen the WORST of this presidency yet, by a long shot. The Party could go literally extinct in the NE in the House. Demography has changed in the South along the Interstates, and that could cost 5 more seats if those folks register and vote. More blacks, more blacks in the suburbs, and more Yankees. And the GOP still runs Paleocon ChristaNazis. Im already hearing radio commercials talking about supporting terrorism, Hillary Clinton, and the homosexual agenda, and how candidate X is against all that.
Im not sure how I am ready for a Dem in charge, but sometimes a spoonful of [censored] makes the medicine look more appealing for next time.
