Default Possible spyware popup meassge, please help!

After connecting to the internet today I received some warnings from my zonealarm firewall describing some sort of attempted access to my machine. After these attempts were blocked I keep getting a strange popup message which goes something like this:

"CRITICAL ERROR MESSAGE - REGISTRY DAMANGED" (misspelling as found)

"Your Windows registry is corrupted" blah, blah, blah.

Im then told to download a registry cleaner from REGISTRYCLEARNERXPS.c o m.

Needless to say I havent. Is this likely to be malicious? What do I do next? I havent currently got a spyware detector, but im solving that right now.

Thanks for helping a computer noob,

Ojo_Rojo

Yes, with a probability of 1.

That would seem to be sensible.
