Default Obama says what?

Link

[ QUOTE ]
Democrat Barack Obama called for ridding the world of nuclear weapons Tuesday and offered his early opposition to the Iraq war as evidence of sound judgment that trumps his lack of Washington experience.

Obama argued that U.S. policy is still focused on the defunct Soviet Union instead of combatting the nuclear threat from rogue nations and terrorists. The United States shouldn't unilaterally disarm, he said, but it must work with other nations to phase out weapons and control atomic material.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nearly everyone likes Obamas personality (including me), but he can't keep reinforcing the notion that he is naive about world affairs if he wants be elected President.

What's naive about it? Maintaining our nuclear arsenal while working to phase out nuclear weapons (START treaties) and control atomic material (Nunn-Luger) is exactly what we've been doing the last 20 years.

Except we haven't thought that we'd be able to maintain tight enough control over nuclear material to get rid of our weapons

Don't get me wrong, its a lovely goal, but how can someone seriously say we've had control of nuclear arms in the last 20-30 years with Pakistan, India and N. Korea(maybe) going nuclear? What about emerging nuclear programs in the Middle East? It doesn't seem we can guarantee a reduction in nuclear arms anywhere anytime in the near future.

Maybe you can, if you lead the way.

I'm sure we could get rid of half of them and still destroy the world 7 or 8 times.

This is standard democrat talk. They've been repeating this idealogical fantasy for as long as I've been alive. And they'll keep doing it every election. They say it because it works (gets applause).
