Questions About MMA and Race
I don't watch MMA, but I did have a few questions.
How "white" would you say US-based MMA is? What percentage of competitors are white? What if we narrow that to non-hispanic white? What percentage of the top 50 fighters in UFC history are white? How white is the fanbase for MMA in the United States compared to boxing? Compared to other sports? |

Re: Questions About MMA and Race
Obviously it's way whiter than boxing, but black MMA fighters are not that rare. Probably just slightly underepresented when compared to the percentage of blacks in the population.
I don't know about the fanbase. |

Re: Questions About MMA and Race
The big difference is that hispanics are heavily underrepresented as compared to boxing.

Re: Questions About MMA and Race
I think you'll start to see a lot more Hispanics (non-Brazilians) in MMA...Roger Huerta (from Mexico) and Eddie Alvarez are two of the sport's biggest rising stars, and Carmelo Marrero is fighting on tonight's card.
