Dave,
How much have you tried the drill where you hit from your knees?
How many separate sessions/days?
How many shots per session?

[/ QUOTE ]

I've only been to the range once since hearing about the drills. Hitting the 6 iron from my knees was tough and I felt weird and a bit self conscious out there doing it. Needless to say, I moved on to a less embarrassing drill quickly.

I know I shouldn't expect great results right away, but I still got bummed out because now it seems like my "game" has completely gone to the crapper ever since I tried to improve.

Just recently I was told by a friend whose opinion I respect that taking lessons is a total waste of time. He said that each instructor has their own vision of what makes a perfect swing and that I'll just be hearing contradictory things the whole time. Be natural was his advice.
On the other hand, I had been told by many others to get instruction ASAP. I still haven't decided what to do.

Well I'm really glad that you tried the drills and as an instructor I would look to get you balanced before moving on to anything technical. Be patient, you have a good natural swing, golf is actually easy, but it does take a little patience and practice to become proficient at.

Thanks for posting that, I appreciate it. I'll be heading to the range again soon and I'll give it another try.

I was also told that I should spend an entire session at the range only doing 3/4 swing 7 iron shots. That way I can work on good ball striking without worrying about trying to kill it. Would this help much? Thanks,
Dave

Yeah that would certainly help you. Killing the ball is more about solid contact anyway.

Is it possible that the driver I am using is inappropriate for my style/skill level?
It has 9.5 degree loft which is a lot lower than what I've heard most amateurs use. Is it possible that the loft has been partly to blame? It is a stiff flex shaft, is that appropriate for me or should I get a regular?

This video seems to imply that I should switch.

golf tips

Should it matter? Should I just stick with what I have and work on my swing? I'm not trying to blame my results on poor equipment or anything, but I think it might be wrong for me.

Thanks,
Dave

swing's not bad, cant really tell from the angles

My guess, reverse weight shift, shoulders are too tilted at the top of your backswing, left knee collapses, poor weight transfer in downswing, arms get away from your body, steep angle of attack, loss of posture through impact.

Yea, work on that...

You don't seem to lack power. A 9.5 degree with a stiff shaft shouldn't be more than you can handle. Having said that, if you are serious about getting better at the game, make your next purchase after getting properly fitted for equipment.

A face-on shot of your swing would help to determine if the shaft you are currently using is the right flex.

Here are two more shots of my drives from different angles.
The backswing problem has seemed to improve and I didn't try to kill it either. My head didn't move as much and yet both of these shots turned out bad. I can't tell if I had the reverse pivot problem or not.

What wrong in these two cases?

Slice

Sky Ball

Thanks a bunch,
Dave
