Default Is this rude?

So I'm a project engineer for an engineering/construction company. I have one new engineer who works under me. About once a week, we'll have a site meeting with one of our clients that will be 80-200 miles away. My subordinate goes with me and I usually end up driving. Just about every time during this drive, he'll just go to sleep. This bugs the hell out of me. If it was ocassional thing I wouldn't mind at all, but it's clear that he's just slotted this time to get some extra sleep. It's not from a work standpoint of me thinking he should be being productive during this time, I'd just prefer the company rather than making long drives through the desert in silence and feel it's disrespectful in that regard. So what do you guys think?

Fall asleep and drift off the road into a pole. That'll teach him.

In all seriousness, maybe try closing your eyes halfway and drifting onto the rumble strip during your next trip as if you were falling asleep. Nothing like putting a little fear into him to keep him awake and giving you company.

Huh. I didn't think it was all that bad. I guess the difference would be that it's every time. If it was just once, I don't think it's a problem at all, especially if he said something about wantin to take a nap this time.

Who cares- just get some music you like.

Or make him drive the way back and sleep yourself.

If it was ocassional I wouldn't mind. If there was 3 or more in the car I also wouldn't care.

wtf is wrong with this? This is in no way rude, or meant to be rude.

Some people sleep a lot more than others. Stop being such an ignorant "doucheboss".

Get over yourself and let the dude catch some Z's. If you deliberately woke him up for no good reason, that would be rude.

This is more likely to mean he's one of these guys who needs like 11 hours of sleep a day. The fact that it's every time I think makes it less rude, and more natural.

It's not like the guy was drinking coffee all morning and jabbering on and on, then you said something dumb and he looks at you and shakes his head and says "Yeah, I think I'm going to take a nap." Then "acts" like he's trying to sleep.
