Rubber-necking
I simply don't get it.
I just sat in 3 miles of bumper-to-bumper non-rush hour traffic. What do I find when I finally get to the cause of it 20 minutes later? 1 cop car and two other cars ON THE SHOULDER of the road. It looked like a rear-ender that could barely snap your head back. If I'm going to waste all that time and be late for work I want to see an upside down vehicle or flames! Why can't people take a glance at this stuff doing 60! |

Re: Rubber-necking
Ok. Why the need to slow down or even look at this at all then? I just don't get why these little accidents have to bring traffic to a halt after they have been cleared.

Re: Rubber-necking
I think that if you're passing an accident scene that you should slow down, if just for the sake of the poor people walking/standing less than 10 feet from traffic doing 70. However, I think slowing down to a near standstill is unnecessary and very dangerous.

Next time you drive by one of these accidents. Try not to look at all. Just stare at the car in front of you, and keep driving.

I had lots of time as the cars in front of me were still almost stopped. That's the part I don't get. Traffic didn't start moving again until a couple of hundred feet after the accident. |
