A hand that has bothered me from the Bay101 WPT
Cross posted from B&M...mods feel free to move or delete if this is the wrong forum.
-------------------------------------------- This hand came up on day 2. I reraised a guy preflop and it was heads up to the flop. Flop was J high and he bet into me. I called. Turn was a blank and he bet and I raised him a large amount. At this point in the tourney, this was a huge pot. Something like 100k or so in the middle by the time I put the raise in (avg stack was around 80k). He sat and thought for a long time. After a couple minutes, he picked up his hand and held the cards perpendicular to the table, facing him, but with his arms outstreched (like he was reading a book). Both his neighbors could easily see the hand, as could the rail behind him. It's an action I've seen a million times before someone makes a big muck. If you've played live, you've seen it, too. He even looked over at his neighbor to his right and said, "I saw you fold this hand earlier". The neighbor just nodded. He eventually put it back down and just called. Is there anything I should have done at this point? Isn't this a dead hand? I'm not sure from an ethical standpoint and from a poker standpoint what I should do. Note that I'm not looking to shoot an angle here, but I also want it to be one person to a hand and I want to be protected in a big pot like this. |

I could see letting this slide in a little $25 local trny, but not with this type of payout.
He solicited advise, and showed his cards Yes? |

Re: A hand that has bothered me from the Bay101 WPT
All you can really do is summon the floorman/TD, who will probably give him a warning and nothing more.
Your opponent came to the brink of violating two rules: the one player-to-a-hand rule and the exposed-cards rule. Fwiw, violating the latter rule results in a penalty, not a dead hand, so the result would be the same. Certainly, it benefits the game if you police players who act unprofessionally, and for that it is worthwhile to call the TD over, but, again, don't lose any sleep over the result--it woulda been the same. |

But by summoning the floorman don't you reveal your intent in wanting him to fold? Or are you also calling the floorman when you have JJ here?

[/ QUOTE ] The ruling would not have killed your opponent's hand, so calling the TD in the middle of the hand would be counterproductive. As soon as the hand was over, I would demand the TD (no dealer, you do not deal the next hand) and have the player, his nodding neighbor, and the dealer reprimanded. |

I wish you would have called me as I would not have killed his hand but I would have issued him a one round penalty.
