yo, you don't have that good of a pad that you'd feel weird about others. Only thing that's special is the tv, but that's not enough to impress anyone imo. They'll just think you skipped out on a vacation and put it towards a tv.

Dean,

are you just embarassed by your success? Also, I'm not sure what you meant by this.

Most of my friends of a similar age are poor. I kinda feel a bit weird having them round, but its not too bad.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'd like to reserve judgement until you can explain better what you meant here, but my first impression upon reading this was certainly not good. Maybe it feels weird to have your "poor friends" around because you act differently around them or treat them as "poor friends?"

I've spent my entire teenage and college life in environments with huge disparities in wealth, and I can tell you that money and class differences are really only awkward or weird if you're making a big deal out of them.

you sound like a fking weirdo, 1400 a month just means you're overpaying to live in a nice building, a 1 bedroom is a 1 bedroom, you have a balcony and a gym for 1400 congratulations wtf do you feel guilty about and why, this is seriously bizarre...

edit im 22 and have a balcony and a gym and pool but its a complex, and i have a 56 inch hdtv and a 360 and a couch and pictures and a bed, i love having my friends over football season is going to be great since i recently added a deep fryer for complete debauchery, you seriously need to lighten up or find friends who like you

[/ QUOTE ]

pls tell me the deep fryer is in your living room/next to the tv.

Just invite them over and when they comment "hey Dean, pretty nice place you got here" just say, "Yeah, I know. Really makes you realize how much your place sucks, doesn't it?"

[/ QUOTE ]

this made me laugh really hard, haha.

I'll post pics of my apt in a couple of weeks Im refurbishing it now. Its def not uberballer, I just feel that if someone sees a PhD student living a $1400/mo apt with 50" plasma TV, dual monitors, nice furniture and artwork etc. they're just gonna think 'wow, this guy must be really [censored] rich'.

I have a friend I run with that lives a mile ago in a 450 sq ft studio flat for example. He is 29, married (he lives in Nebraska, works over here during the week), and has what seems to be a good job with Bloomberg......I'd feel awkward having him over here.

[/ QUOTE ]

1400/month in Omaha would get you one of the nicest places in the city. I had a 2 bedroom apt. in the Old Market that was over 1000 sq. feet for just over a grand.

Where this really bothers me is in going out. I'm perfectly comfortable spending $500 on a night out, or $1000 on a plane ticket to take a trip on a whim, or $300 to take the helicopter tour instead of $20 for the bus tour etc

It both annoys and emberrases me that a large majorty of my friends are not in the same tax bracket and aren't willing to do the above.

I really have no advice for you on this, but I definately feel your pain

[/ QUOTE ]

If this stuff annoys you or embarrasses you than you are humongous douche...and not because I think any of those things are particular extravagant.
