teams will bypass shots if it seems the player is genuinely hurt. however, most of the time if a team has a break or a good move to goal going, it will not kick the ball out if a player is hurt.

In one game in the English premiership one team put the ball out because a player on the opposing side was injured. The other team then scored from the resulting throw in. There was such an outcry the game was replayed.
