Howard: awesome. I almost did this 2 days ago in Madison, Wisconsin. My fiance' was going away for a month a day later and it looked like I was going to miss her completely, so I had a car lined up to drive from Madison to NJ. Luckily, the weather cleared in Chicago and I avoided the act of heroism.

All: By the way, I did actually negotiate a bit with the cabbie, but shortened it here for rhetorical effect. He started at 1500, I started at 1000, and he agreed to 1000 and I pay the gas one-way. He was a nice guy and a good driver, so I tipped him an extra hundred for a total cost of 1100 plus two tanks of gas on my credit card, price unknown.
