looking at my cords and comparing them to the wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvi)...

it looks like the monitor cord is a dvi-d dual link while the adapter is a dvi-i dual link, but they fit together fine. i think the card supports dvi, but not dual link perhaps?

It looks like this will support dual-link dvi.

[/ QUOTE ]

Note that the physical connector may support that, but your particular graphics adapter may not.

I've been doing a little bit of digging around and I haven't found any half-height graphics adapters that support dual-link.

I'm willing to bet up to one penny that this is the problem.

I just looked on a site about specs of my card and it specifically says: [ QUOTE ]
What it will do, however, is run a Dell 3007WFP 30” LCD monitor at 2560x1600, thanks to its "Dual-Link DVI-I connector and allow any person with a PCI slot to use a current generation

[/ QUOTE ]

Link: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/articl...50aHVzaWFzdA==

I also noticed that in my display settings, it isn't showing up as (Digital) for the connection. My machine reads "Dell 3007WFP and Radeon..." On my brothers machine, he is running a Geforce 6800 Ultra with a Dell 20" widescreen monitor. It shows the connection as "Dell 2005FPW (Digital) and Geforce 6800 Ultra"

On the specs for the 3007 it lists :
VESA, 1280 x 800 - 50 kHz Horizontal, 60.0 Hz Vertical
VESA, 2560 x 1600 (digital) - 99 kHz Horizontal, 60 Hz Vertical"
so I think we can assume this is where my max resolution is coming from right now.

What am I missing?

Eh, the above link is for a VisionTek PCI (NOT PCIe) card... is this your exact model?

No, it's not the exact same model. I have whichever version dell crammed into my slim desktop. I don't think they would change the chipset, though. Shouldn't I still be able to support the digital resolution of 2560x1600?

The x1300 chipset certainly supports Dual-Link DVI (the vital issue here) - but if your card's manufacturer chose to connect all the pins to enable this functionality is another issue

Looks like your cables are all fine, so I'm starting to lean to the fact that they didn't bother

At a guess, I'd think your card is the one halfway down this page - unfortuantely there is no part # so I can't figure for certain if it can do Dual-Link... but your experiences suggest not at this point.

EDIT: Scratch that, ther eis a part # - it is probably a "JJ461" - but the fact that they mention Dual-Link for some of the NVIDIA cards and for the ATi FireGL, but not for yours is not looking good imo.

Gonna guess you need a new card

Yes, that is the same looking card, but mine is the 256mb version. I don't understand why I can't go digital with it...

There are 256MB versions on that page too - see above edit.

talked to dell today. they said that i have best possible card my computer can fit: only have a 250 watt power supply, lo profile, pci-express, and max of 256mb.

im having a dell guy come out to replace my current one since they think it should be running things fine.
