Default Hedge Fund Qualifications

Hedge funds are kind of mysterious to me. Right now I'm a senior in college looking for jobs and want to know which positions best prepare us to work at a hedge fund in terms of knowledge.

I was just speaking to a UBS Director at an info session and he said that IB is a lot better than trading these days because learning how to trade based on popular models doesn't cut it over understanding how markets/companies work and doing things like telling companies "fix this or else."

Do we agree with that? How about positions like investment management?
