I'd raise but there's some players who fit the SB's description that I'd fold against. If I do raise I'm not betting the river unless the board pairs or I hit a queen.

BTW, what are the rules: can BB (or SB, whoever the hell he is) raise on the turn after you call?

[/ QUOTE ]
Yes. MP's raise is exactly the minimum, one half bet, to be considered a full raise.

That said, I still raise for value, and I (possible unpopular view) don't fold to to a three-bet.

You guys don't seem to understand what's going on. MP raised, if I raise again that will make it 3 bets. If BB puts in another raise on the turn, it's 4 bets, and I am certainly against a set. He won't even have J9s often enough for me to call hoping to improve (I don't see him 3-betting J9 on this flop anyway).

So I decided to just call, planning on folding the river UI if BB put in another raise.

As it turned out, BB folded the turn for the extra 1/2 bet, which just confused the hell out of me.

Mayber he didn't realize the other guy as close to all in. I remember once seeing a supposedly tight player bet the river into one opponent, the opponent telling him he was all-in, and the bettor takes his bet back and surrendermucks without showing.

I understand exactly what's going on, I just happened to call it a three-bet instead of a 3.5 bet.

As for the "definitely has a set", that could be true if the hand is being played against you in your casino. However, with the information available in thread, and the way most people play against me, I would have to call as there would be a decent chance of "not set", but it would be a borderline call that I could fold against some ultra-passive opponents.

That said, the fact that his action was completely unexpected to you indicates that you were putting him on too tight of a range to begin with.
