perhaps from friendly tips?

Call a professional before you die. Send the bill to the landlord.

This is good advice. I had a flood last year. A professional cleaning company sprayed down everything, left a huge ass industrail strength dehumidifier and several powerfull fans running for a week, and came back to spray down again.

It was a really big job, not something you are going to do yourself. Id call and have them send the bill to the landlord.

I only had to remove anything from the basement I didnt want thrown out the night before they arrived. Same as you it burned the [censored] out of my throat and eyes.
Nasty stuff, Id stay clear

This happened to me last year except I got the royal screw job and things didn't get completely taken care of for like 3 weeks. Its fun living in a room that is half concrete

I'd get to fixing this immediatly and put as much pressure on them as possible.

If a landlord doesn't react to black mold he won't react to anything.

Landlord called me back and started explaining something about the it taking a while to get plumbers to fix the pipes...Turns out he had no [censored] idea what it was like because he hadn't actually gone down there. He said he would "come by tomorrow and wipe it down with bleach." I'm going to tell him he has 2 options, Get me a new house or get professionals...or I call the health department. Sound like a decent plan?

If you don't have a family member or friend who is a lawyer, call one immediately. Have them draft and send a formal letter for you informing your landlord that you expect action to be taken, ETC. Your chosen lawyer should know what to write. The mold is usually not a big deal (black mold concerns are over-hyped) but the general status of the basement brings all kinds of other pests, affects air quality, etc, etc, etc.

Having sent a letter from a lawyer will help you in all sorts of situations later on if you find yourself in a situation where you have to persue legal action.
