Playing live for a living
Ive played poker as a side hobby for about 2 years now, last summer it was almost like a second job. I'd go to work for 8 hours a day, then often go play at the casino at night for a couple of hours to make extra money on the side. Do you think that playing live 4/8 could substitute as a job, assuming that I win the standard 2bb/hour. If not 4/8, how low of a limit would it have to be to be feasable as an actual job?
I guess what Im looking for most with this post is people to post their first hand experiences if they were ever a live "grinder". As of now I am still working and dont see myself quitting in the near future, but if I am ever not working I think I might try poker as a "job" for a little while to see how it is. |

Re: Playing live for a living
I know this isn't the kind of answer you're looking for, but if you're good enough to make a living grinding 4/8, you would be much better off keeping your day job & building your bankroll in order to move up in limits.

Re: Playing live for a living
Grinding 4/8 online for a living is feasible because you can play 400 hands per hour. Grinding 4/8 for 2 BB/hour live? $16 per hour with high variance does not sound like my idea of a good job. Personally I think a live pro needs to play 10/20 at the absolute minimum.

Re: Playing live for a living
I haven't tried it, but I'm fairly sure that playing live 4/8 for a living is a very bad idea. Read Ed Millers articles on going pro (you'll find them on his web site).

Re: Playing live for a living
The 2 bb/hour is best case scenario, and I doubt very many people can attain it. With Tokes, Rake, Bad beat, slow play, slow dealing, etc it's a VERY tough number to reach. I concur with whoever said 10/20 is the minimum.
